A Weston-super-Mare care home was due to close yesterday (Wednesday) after more than 50 years.
Abbeyfield House, in Eastfield Park, first opened its doors in 1963.
But the home was due to shut at the end of February due to the building’s condition.
The Eastfield Park site was the last of four Abbeyfield Society homes once situated in the town, with staff redundancies set to take place and residents rehoused.
A spokesman for the Abbeyfield Society said last week: “Due to the age and layout of the building, it is sadly not feasible to keep it open as it requires extensive remodelling.
“The welfare of those who live and work with us is always our priority. We have met with staff, residents and their relatives to inform them of the closure and we will work closely with them all moving forward.
“Our staff team will ensure residents are safely resettled and our HR team will work with employees in finding new roles.”
