Work to install a new entry system at Worle Library will see it close for several days, starting next week.

Opening hours are to be increased at the library by North Somerset Council through a swipecard access system, which will enable registered users to enter the Mendip Avenue building at evenings and weekends.

The change will mean people will be able to use the library’s resources for 59 hours per week – up from 26.

The new technology needs to be installed ahead of its launch in February.

But, to get it in place, the library will be shut all next week and January 22 and 23.

The same scheme is planned at Yatton Library and it will be shut from January 22-26 and February 5-7 for similar work.

Both sites children’s centre will be ‘slightly disrupted’ while the installation work is carried out, says the council.

The swipecard entry system has already been installed at Portishead and Winscombe libraries.
