There are delays on Weston-super-Mare’s roads and on the M5 today (Friday) due to high volumes of traffic travelling north after the half term break.
There is congestion on the motorway’s northbound carriageway between junction 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare).
Highways England is warning there are delays of around 20 minutes, but delays of up to an hour had been reported earlier today.
One driver stuck in the jams told the Mercury: ““Northbound traffic has been at a crawl on this stretch today – it took me three times as long to get back from Exeter this afternoon as it did to get there this morning.
“Thankfully there’s no sign of an accident, but in the absence of any obvious incident or any roadworks, it seems safe to assume the volume of traffic is simply too much for the motorway to cope with.”
There are also delays on the slipway at junction 21, causing some congestion on the northbound carriageway.
Roadworks near Morrisons supermarket are also causing delays getting into Weston.
