Birnbeck Pier’s north jetty looks set to be ripped down in a matter of days, after diggers were spotted carrying out preparation work at the Weston-super-Mare site today (Thursday).
Demolition builders were spotted close to the pier, in Birkett Road, building an access road so the pier’s decaying jetty can be safely removed.
Builders say that, subject to suitable tide conditions, creating an access road to the causeway should take five days and removal of the jetty itself will begin next week.
North Somerset Council’s planning committee voted to approve the jetty’s demolition last year, after it was badly damaged in storms at the end of 2015.
