Weston Brass

The band had the pleasure of playing for member, Laura Smith, at her marriage to Craig Smith.

Laura has been a member of the band since being introduced by her parents Mark and Carol Smith, who are both trombonists and long-serving members of the band.

During the formalities Laura, accompanied by the band, performed her first ever solo when she played To Make You Feel My Love to her husband.

The band is preparing for a series of contests, the first one on October 29.

Weston Breathe Easy

The club meets at Weston Cricket Club, Windwhistle Lane, on the third Wednesday of every month.

The next meeting will be on October 19 from 2-4pm and the speaker will be from Age UK, talking on scams.

Weston Civil Service Retirement Fellowship

At the next meeting on October 20, bookings will be taken for the last coach trip of the year to Cardiff on November 8.

All serving and retired civil servants are welcome on the outings and also to the coffee mornings which are held on the first and third Thursday mornings of the month at the Friends’ Meeting House in High Street.

Mendip Inner Wheel

A very successful Macmillan coffee morning was held at Church House in Cheddar.

Despite appalling weather the event was well attended and raised £300 for the charity.

Members had great fun decorating and filling 33 boxes with items for disadvantaged people in Romania. The boxes contain a variety of items to provide a much-needed bit of luxury to people living in difficult conditions.

Milton Probus

Milton Probus is a club for socially active and retired men, meeting on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 10.15am for 10.45am at Milton Methodist Church, with refreshments.

Members mingle socially before receiving a presentation by a speaker.

Congresbury Over 60s Club

After an uncertain time when there was a possibility that the club would not be able to continue, members are pleased to be able to look forward to welcoming the Reflections singers to the first meeting of the autumn season.

This will be held on Tuesday and hopefully a programme until mid-December will be available.

On November 1 a social afternoon will be held and if possible future meetings will be held every other Tuesday at the War Memorial Hall from 2.30-4pm. Further details for anyone interested in joining are available from 01934 832004.

WorleWind Band

This Saturday the band will perform at Coronation Hall in Bleadon with a programme of lively tunes.

The orchestra enjoyed a very successful concert and would like to congratulate junior and senior members on their wonderful performances.

A1 Camera Club

At the annual meeting, awards were presented to Roger Inglis for photographer of the year and Sonya Mitchell for most improved photographer.

Our programme has a good mix of tutorials, studio nights, practical sessions, competitions and speakers.

The club meets on Tuesdays at St Georges Community Centre, from 7.30pm.

The Notable Club (Not-Able)

Members have recently enjoyed a barbecue and lunch at the Ebdon Arms.

John Penny was welcomed to give his presentation Points In Time; an entertaining look with many memories at past local television news clips.

Members had a pleasurable cruise down the Sharpness Canal on the Willow Trust Leonard Matchan boat for disabled people.

Paola and Paul from the Centre for Sustainable Energy were welcomed to give an informative presentation of the help and advice available.

The club welcomed a visit from Weston’s Mayor Alan Peak and Mayoress Jacqueline Peak. An enjoyable talk was given of the busy year so far, the occasions, events and people they have met.

The Notable Club is a weekly, socially-active lunchtime club for physically disabled people aged 16 to 60 years. Contact Dina on 07845 220349 for details.

Mendip Rotarty Club

At a recent meeting, prizes were awarded to students from the Kings of Wessex Academy who had entered the Rotary Young Artists competition organised by Rotarian Richard Acreman.

Richard warmly welcomed the competitors and parents and thanked the art department staff at the school and judging panel which included local artist Peter Keen, Doug Johnson and Barbara Millard.

Vouchers were presented and the overall winner’s shield was presented to Kezia Beale. The prize-winners in each category were: Art drawing and painting with a local or Somerset theme: 1st – Eva Delap; 2nd – Maddie Weir; 3rd – Tia Roberts.
