Weston-super-Mare’s women are being urged to brave the darkness and walk along the town’s beach at midnight to raise money for one of the area’s best-loved charities.

Weston Hospicecare is bringing back its popular Midnight Beach Walk after a break last year, thanks to support from the Grand Pier.

The walk will see women take on a 5k route along the beach in aid of the hospice, with only candlelit memorial bags to guide their way.

The hospice’s events manager Kelsey Dehaney said the walk could not take place last year due to ‘logistical reasons’, but said the charity was able to bring it back for 2016 thanks to sponsorship from the pier and popular demand.

She said: “We had a lot of people who’ve previously done the Midnight Beach Walk asking us when we were going to bring it back, so we knew that a lot of ladies in the area loved the event.

“While we haven’t been able to put on the event for a while due to logistical reasons, we’re delighted that the Grand Pier has teamed up with us as an event sponsor, allowing us to bring back this very special event for our supporters.

“It’s not often you get to be out on the beach at midnight, walking in solidarity, support and celebration with hundreds of women. But the Midnight Beach Walk is just that.

“It’s a chance to come together in celebration or reflection, and you can have some sparkly, shiny and glowy fun while doing it.

“We’re asking people to be a light in the dark for the hundreds of local people we help support.”

The walk will take place at midnight along Weston’s seafront on September 10.
