The foster mother of a Weston-super-Mare man who went missing a year ago this week says her family is ‘devastated’ by his disappearance – and urged him to let her know he is ‘happy, safe and well’.

Scott Cook was last seen near his home in Sunnyside Road at around 9.50pm on April 25, 2015, and despite numerous police appeals, there have been no confirmed sightings of Scott since he vanished.

He would have turned 26 on April 4 and his foster mother, Doreen Jones, told the Mercury her family could not stop thinking about what might have happened to him.

Ms Jones, aged 63, took Scott in as a 10-year-old and he stayed with her until he was 19. She said: “We are all devastated. My three children all miss him terribly. We are wondering where he is all the time.

“He would always try to do the right thing. He was really good with my grandchildren and played with them all.”

Ms Jones said she last saw music lover Scott around two weeks before his disappearance, as he came to stay at her family home in Gloucestershire for the weekend. According to her, he had seemed in good spirits and spoke of getting an apprenticeship in plumbing.

She said: “He went back (to Weston) in a very positive mood and was going to go to the job centre to try to get an apprenticeship. He was very enthusiastic about trying out as a plumber or something along those lines.

“But he did find it hard when he went to the job centre because he could not make his dream happen.

“He often talked about living away from society as he found it very difficult and he spoke about leaving to be away from society, so maybe he is doing that somewhere.

“I just want him to get in touch. We just want to know he is happy, safe and well.”

Scott, who is also known as Jay, is white, about 5ft 5ins tall and has a tattoo on his left arm which says Jay Dot.

At the time he went missing he was described as slim with a shaven head. His friends said he sometimes has a goatee-type beard and usually wears dark navy joggers or jeans and a T-shirt.

While police officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary have no information to suggest he has left the Weston area, he is also believed to be familiar with the Bisley, Bishops Cleeve and Tewkesbury areas of Gloucestershire.

Detective Chief Inspector Ray Hulin said: “Despite a number of appeals we have had no confirmed sightings in the past year and Scott hasn’t made contact with friends or family.

“We searched local woods for signs of a camp after his friends suggested he had wanted to go ‘off grid’ for a while, but found no trace of him.

“I’d like to ask anyone who regularly visits the fields and woods around Weston to tell us about any signs of someone sleeping rough.”
