A Weston health complex will be making some of its facilities free to use as part of a national initiative to get people fitter and healthier.

Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, on Hutton Moor Road, is participating in National Fitness Day on Wednesday.

It will allow members of the public to use the gym free of charge, with staff available throughout to instruct and advise visitors on using the equipment.

Under-16s will have the chance to swim for free during the public sessions, although those under eight years old will require parental supervision.

A health trainer will also be available to consult in the centre’s reception area between 9am-4pm, where free advice about healthy eating, exercise, reducing alcohol intake and stopping smoking will be provided.

The health trainer is to hold regular surgeries every Monday and Thursday from 10.30am-12.30pm at the centre, commencing on September 10 with no need to book in advance.

Visitors on National Fitness Day will be able to find out more about North Somerset Council’s Go4Free scheme.

It offers discounted access to sport sessions for those over 14 who live in Weston or Worle who do not participate in any organised forms of exercise.

Thirty of Hutton Moor’s classes are included under the Go4Free banner.

Those who wish to take part in National Fitness Day at Hutton Moor should arrive from 9am, with no advance requirements.
