Salvatore’s Kitchen Vista Mare Restaurant has been unveiled by Salvatore Corsentino alongside the ice-cream parlour La Cremeria, which is run by Domenico Abruzzo.

The new eatery occupies the former Tutto’s restaurant building in Princess Royal Square.

The two friends run businesses in Bristol and were looking to expand separately, before they discovered the restaurant – which opened in 2012 – had become available.

Salvatore said: “I was looking for somewhere in Portishead. Then some friends said this place was coming on the market.

“It’s a very interesting, nice building and we thought it was definitely worth taking on.”

Domenico added: “We are long-time friends. I come from an ice-cream background, and Salvatore comes from a restaurant background.”

The building has been split into separate sections, with an ice-cream parlour, coffee area and pizzeria downstairs and a restaurant upstairs.

It has undergone a complete refurbishment.

Salvatore said: “We have sectioned it off to make it more manageable, as before it was one big restaurant.

“We’ve refurbished it with leather-back chairs, because when having a meal you want to be comfortable.

“Upstairs is a premium restaurant, specialising in seafood, but we do other food as well.”

Salvatore said one of the star dishes featured scallops and king prawns, cooked in a wine sauce.

And for dessert, the ice-cream parlour provides gelato treats in a variety of flavours.

Domenico said: “My business has been established since 1982, and it’s a family business.

“The ice-cream is quality-checked by us. It is a better quality of ice-cream, made from Jersey cow milk. We are using fresh milk, which makes a massive difference to the taste.”
