OBJECTIONS have been raised for plans to build a construction compound near a Worle cul-de-sac, which residents are calling ‘vandalism’ to the area.

The application states the compound will be created off Powis Close to install a storage tank to reduce flooding at Spring Hill and has been submitted to North Somerset Council by Wessex Water.

The plans say an office, canteen, toilets, a generator and store room will be built on the land.

Public consultation has closed this week, revealing a number of unhappy comments from those who live in area.

Leigh Williams, of Wigmore Gardens, said: “As a legally disabled pensioner, a dog walker and a cyclist, who uses this recreational area daily; I would like to voice my strongest possible objection to the proposed vandalism of this area.

“I do see the need for flood defence work to be done and it must be done. Somewhere must be found for the storage of supplies, materials, vehicles, canteen, toilets, offices. Clearly this can not be done where the work is being carried out, there just is not enough room.”

The planning application was received by Weston Town Council, which submitted no objections.

Wessex Water also included an environmental supporting statement to the planning application which said: “The storage tank is proposed to improve local problems of sewer flooding by providing additional storage in the network.

“The topsoil will be stripped off, stored and the area will be stoned. On completion of the works the stone will be removed, the topsoil replaced and the area reseeded.

“The temporary construction compound is required for nine months from February 2015.”

A resident of Spring Terrace, which is opposite the land, said it will ‘destroy’ the quiet residential area.
