EMERGENCY crews closed Worlebury Woods, in Weston, on the weekend as a huge search operation ensued. 

Search and rescue teams, police and a helicopter helped to locate a vulnerable man who went missing on Sunday, October 16.

At just after 5am, police were alerted to reports of the man who was last seen in the woods. 

Weston RNLI and the Coastguard also helped to scout the coastline.

A police drone was used in a bid to locate the man too.

The missing person was found hours later at around 11.30am after he made himself known to the emergency services.  

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue said: “The team was contacted by Avon and Somerset Police just after 5am following concerns for a vulnerable missing male in Worlebury Woods.

"Search teams worked through the woods as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency searched the shoreline, RNLI Weston Lifeboat Station were offshore, a police drone and helicopter then searched from above.

“The missing person made himself known within the woods and he was provided the support he needed at the scene. The team stood down at 11.33am."
