CHRISTMAS will go ahead in Weston this year despite rising energy costs.

The annual light switch-on show will take place in late November with the mayor and local singer Phoebe Richards.

The event marks the beginning of the festive season in town where a Christmas tree will also be installed.

Last year the switch-on was cancelled due to poor weather.

On November 26, people will get the chance to enjoy free mince pies, a lantern parade and carols around the tree with music from Weston Brass.

The event will take place on the Italian Gardens at 5pm.

The Stable, on Wadham Street, will be holding an indoor artisan Christmas market with local producers from 5pm to 8pm too.

Other festive events will include Elf Jr the Musical on November 27 and a Christmas charity concert on December 10 at the Blakehay theatre.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting blakehaytheatre.co.uk.

The popular EAT festival will also take place on December 11 at the Winter Gardens.
