COMMUNITY groups have celebrated marking 50 years since a walk through Somerset was designated an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Weston Rotary, which was part of the team instrumental to the Mendip Way walk's creation, marked the occasion with a relay walk along the route.
The group walk also recognized its thorough restoration.
The Mendip Way is 50 miles of footpath which follows Uphill Wharf in the west, through Cheddar and then onto Wells, before reaching Frome in the east. It's walked by thousands of people every year.
A spokesperson for the club said: "In celebration of the golden anniversary our members joined the relay walk to celebrate the re-opening of the route.
"It was a privilege to be able to enjoy the wonderful views from the top of Crook Peak prior to attending the unveiling of the plaque at Wells Museum - this acknowledged Weston Rotary’s involvement in this fantastic project."
