Avon Fire and Rescue has released safety advice for people cutting costs this winter.
With the cost of living crisis leaving many in debt, it comes as no surprise that people are trying to cut costs where possible when heating their homes.
For example, more and more people have been using electric heaters; an Electrical First Survey taken last year found that 42% of people are planning on using electric heaters to keep costs down.
However, Avon Fire and Rescue Service (AF&RS) urges people to keep heaters away from flammable objects.

❗️♨️ Even if you’ve been drenched by torrential rain, please don’t use portable heaters to dry your clothes.

Electric blankets have also proven themselves to be a firm favourite. It is advised that these are checked regularly for wear and tear, and it is suggested that users should set timers to avoid overheating.
For those using log burners and open fireplaces to heat their homes, it is important that these are swept regularly to avoid build up.
