A WESTON-BASED author has written four novels since retirement and is currently working on a fifth.

Graham Oxley, a former solicitor, has published four novels since retiring, having never published anything before in his life.

One of his novels, called A Flirt with Justice, was published in 2021 by Vanguard Press.

The book tells the tale of young George Davies, who starts work in a small government office which is run by the less-than-competent Mr Arnold Pigg.

Amongst a myriad of amusing and entertaining characters, such as Crown Court judge Jeremy Fallow and rugby star Pete, readers are invited to witness the unfolding relationship between George and Mavis, who also works at the office.

Graham is currently working on the book's sequel, An Angel of Justice.

Not only that, but Graham also has a collection of published poetry, which act as musings and observations of life in general, as well as poems written for his children when they were small.

Reflections in Verse was published by Vanguard Press in 2022 and includes highlights such as Thrifty Theodore, The Serpent Slayer and The Flash.

Speaking about his career development, Graham says: "My own career in writing did not start until after I retired.

"My previous working life was too loaded down with work, family, mortgage etc. I tried all kinds of jobs in my life but eventually qualified as a solicitor and worked in W-S-M for the last 20 years of my working life.

"My then wife and I were friendly with another local author Helen Dunmore, (now sadly deceased), I expect you have heard of her. She was quite famous in literary circles.

"Her husband Frank was also a local solicitor. We went to dinner at their house about 40 years ago. She and my wife had met at the school gate, we each had a child in the same class.

"At that time Helen had had a few poems published and I had just started my first novel. About forty years later I finally got round to finishing my first book and Helen had published about 18 novels.

"My main problem is that although I can modestly claim to be quite good at writing stories, I am certainly no good at publicising or selling them."
