TREAD Softly Productions have announced that they will be coming to Somerset as part of their summer tour.

Residents are invited to watch the sell-out play, The Half, by Danielle Ward, a comedian and writer. Her writing credits include Brassic, Mongrels, Not Going Out and Idris Elba’s In The Long Run. Her TV and radio appearances include Mock The Week, Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe and The News Quiz.

On Saturday, May 20, Weston locals can watch the show at the Front Room Theatre. The show starts at 8pm.

The Front Room theatre opened its doors in the old Pizza Express on Dolphin Square in December 2022. With help from Theatre Orchard, Culture Weston and a grant from the Arts Council, the disused unit was soon transformed into an impressive independent venue.

If Weston is a bit far out for you, don't panic, because there will also be a showing in The Theatre Shop in Clevedon on Saturday, May 27 at 7.30pm. The 86 seat theatre is situated in a disused shop unit. Located near the centre of the town, it is the perfect place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a night of entertainment.

The Half, which is directed by Jacqs Graham, follows the story of Nell and Cathy, two comedians who have reunited after 10 years for a charity benefit gig at The London Palladium.

During their backstage wait, the audience will be transported back in time, seeing how the two women rose to fame and the events that led to their split.

This is the first time that the play has toured since it was presented at the Edinburgh Festival in 2018.

Rachael Proctor-Lane and Rosie Cross are the stars of the show. Rachael, a performer with Bristol’s leading improvisation troupe Degrees of Error, plays the character of Nell. Rachael says: "She is such fun to play. I specifically like her rants about ageing.”

Meanwhile, Rosie, who has a portfolio of past performances at The Tobacco Factory Theatre, describes her character, Cathy, as “a supremely confident extrovert!”
