POLICE in Weston moved quickly to thwart an attempt by travellers to set up camp in a park in the town.

Officers moved in shortly after the travellers drove a number of vehicles onto Jubilee Park, on the Coronation estate, at around 6pm yesterday (Thursday, August 24).

Although the group did not cause any damage, police powers were employed to evict them from the land.

Within an hour of their arrival, the last caravan had left the park.

A spokesperson for Weston-super-Mare and Worle Neighbourhood Policing said: "Police were called to travellers entering Jubilee Park on the Coronation estate.

"The travellers entered the park without causing any damage.

"However police powers were used to evict them from the land.

"At 7.09pm, the last caravan left the park, without any issues.
