A YOUNG Bridgwater woman who failed to buy a ticket for her rain journey has been hit with a court bill of more than £400.

Thais Chapman, 26, of Polden Street, had previously denied the offence, but was found guilty in her absence at a hearing at North Somerset Magistrates' Court.

The court was told that FGW staff noticed Chapman at Highbridge and Burnham on November 24, 2020, without a £4.20 ticket her fare should have cost.

The case against her was proved in her absence this month and she was find £220 and ordered to pay £4.20 compensation, along with a £34 victim surcharge and costs of £180, landing her with a total court bill of £438.20, which she must pay by September 11.
