A HOLIDAY park located near Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare has been recognised for its sustainability with an award.

Riverside Holiday Village received an accolade from Green Tourism’s awards certification programme which recognises the commitment of tourism businesses who are actively working to become more sustainable, writes James Edginton.

Green Tourism’s Bronze/Silver/Gold awards are acknowledged worldwide as an indicator of environmentally-friendly practise.

Riverside Holiday Village were rewarded for their attempts to become more sustainable with a silver certificate by Green Tourism.

The family orientated holiday park offer a wide range of accommodation such as seasonal touring pitches, static caravans to buy or hire, and luxury holiday lodges for sale, along with great facilities for guests like an indoor swimming pool, convenience shop and a fishing lake.

The Somerset-based park commented on the award on their website, saying: “Our business is reliant on visitors coming to enjoy the stunning Somerset countryside and we have worked hard to adopt an ethical, responsible and sustainable culture within our organisation.”

“We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and it’s fantastic to have had all of our hard work recognised with this award.”

Several of the park’s initiatives were highlighted and commended by Green Tourism, including excellent examples of how they put across their green story and projects, their strong commitment to promoting and facilitating sustainable travel options for visitors, great examples of practice which reflect their commitment to lower their carbon output and an outstanding knowledge of the local area and how to enjoy it responsibly.

Also praised by Green Tourism was the use of signage explaining to guests about the nature that can be found in and around the park which was described as “excellent”.
