AVON fire services attended an incident on the M5 southbound near Sedgemoor Services yesterday lunchtime.

A vehicle fire between J21 A370 (Weston-Super-Mare) and J21 (Burnham-on-Sea) saw one lane close and caused delays of up to 25 minutes.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire said: "Crews from Weston were called to reports of a vehicle fire at 11:03.

"On arrival, crews found one car well alight.

"With one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus, crews used small tools and two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"The incident was left in the hands of police and highways colleagues."

According to Inrix, all lanes re-opened after roughly 30 minutes, but delays continued which saw traffic diverting along the A38 through Thornbury.

Emergency services dealt with the incident swiftly, and traffic reportedly began to ease within an hour at around 12:45pm.
