MY eldest is now six! How did that happen?

Feels just like yesterday I had him, the tiniest little thing covered in black hair. Such a character from day one.

He has the dirtiest and loudest laugh, when he whispers everyone can hear what he is saying. He loves dinosaurs, Avengers, cars and wrestling.

He is the kindest and most thoughtful boy, ever popular wherever he goes. He has such good looks that he’s been asked to model and the boy is all muscle.

When I asked him who he wanted to come to his party, he said ‘everyone’. I knew then that I’d be booking a hall.

He requested a three tier Scooby Doo cake with a chocolate layer, caramel layer and a vanilla piñata with all the M&M’s spilling out.

I made him just that but the heat had other ideas and instead of Scooby looking chipper, he looked very droopy! He was impressed none the less, and the whole thing was eaten which I am very happy about.

His party was at St George’s Community Centre and we hired a bouncy castle from Total Bounce. It was one of the biggest, it was big enough to fit all the kids on at one time and it was the centre of attention, the kids went on and never came off for the whole two hours.

Total Bounce were amazing, they arrived early and were understanding that the gates weren’t open just yet and extremely helpful and kind.

I made sure I did an adults-only food table where we had our own sub sandwiches that I made, doughnuts, chocolates, cheese board and crisps and then on the kiddos food table were hot dogs - with Richmond sausages of course - doughnuts, fingers, biscuits, sandwiches, sausage rolls, the usual.

Everyone seemed to like that and I had comments from some parents saying how much they appreciated the adult food table.

At the end of the party I found some kids and grown ups alike trying on the wigs and outfits that I had gotten of all the Scooby Doo characters to try on! They had fun.

I just wish I had done more. I ran out of time, grieving put me two weeks behind. The favour bags went down well and the boy was spoilt by all his friends and family.

We only ever want the company of the people we invite, my kids don’t need anything but the kindness and generosity is always appreciated and he loves all the gifts he received.

Today is his actual birthday and I cannot wait to pick him up and go to Asda to pick his pizza, which is what he wanted, and a desert. I would have made one if I knew the whole birthday cake would go! He could have doughnuts. Whatever he wants.

Then hopefully meeting my husband at home where the birthday boy will be met with banners and balloons on the door and his present stack from Mummy and Daddy.

I cannot wait to see his face.
