DORITOS has set a new record for the world’s highest-ever cheese stretch at Cheddar Gorge to celebrate Guacamole Day.

The stunt was pulled off to celebrate International Guacamole Day (September 16), a key ingredient to any bowl of nachos.

Doritos Dippers are designed to be thicker and crunchier - so they don’t go soggy or break when carrying serious weights of cheese, guacamole and salsa.

To prove the point, Doritos set the ultimate test in extreme conditions, by creating a giant mountain of nachos measuring 16ft wide and 14ft high at the home of Britain’s favourite cheese, Cheddar.

Specially trained stunt pilots manoeuvred a helicopter over the nacho mountain, before lifting a massive 4ft nacho covered in piping hot cheese to a lofty 49ft, setting a new world record for the world’s highest-ever cheese stretch.

Rob Pothier, senior marketing manager at Doritos, said: "This is nacho everyday stunt, this is a Doritos world record to celebrate National Guacamole Day.

“The day may not be celebrated by everyone, but this is our cup final, our Christmas and our New Year rolled into one.

“The cheese pull was an epic display of Doritos taking nachos to the next level. This is as gouda as it gets.”

To make the stunt a reality, Doritos Dippers food boffins, cheese scientists, experienced helicopter pilots, the Cheddar Gorge team and even celebrity Sam Thompson spent over a month researching, developing and training to make this record a reality.

Sam was on the ground in Cheddar Gorge, watching the record-breaking nacho dunk.

The presenter and podcaster said “That was absolutely epic. I’ve seen a cheese pull or two in my time - it’s a social media phenomenon, but using a helicopter, that’s next level.

“It was an honour and a privilege to be in Cheddar Gorge to witness Doritos break the record for the highest-ever cheese pull. I’m going to have to try and recreate this at home.”
