LAST night, fire crews from Avonmouth and Weston attended the scene of a motorway collision which resulted in a car ending up on its roof.

Crews arrived at around 8.18pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, October 11). The collision happened on the M5 southbound between Junction 21 (Weston) and 22 (Burnham).

One car had left the carriageway and was on its roof when crews arrived. Firefighters soon got to work to release two people from the vehicle.

All traffic was temporarily held. In a statement made at 9.18pm, Travel Somerset had said: "All traffic being temporarily held due to a collision on #M5 Southbound from J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare) to J22 (Burnham-on-sea)."

Police and ambulance workers also attended.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 20:16hrs on Wednesday October 11 to a road traffic incident near Junction 21 on the M5 southbound.

"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, two air ambulances, an operations officer and a hazardous area response team.”
