THOUSANDS of people in Weston will fall silent next month to honour those that have lost their lives in the line of duty in the Armed Forces.

The annual Remembrance event will take place on Sunday, November 12 at Grove Park.

A full order of the day can be found on the Weston Town Council's website.

Accompanied by a band, a parade of cadets, military personnel, scouts and guides will set off from the High Street at 10.25am.

This will be followed by a service, featuring hymns, wreath laying and the national anthem.

At 11am, residents will be encouraged to observe a two-minute silence.

The first two-minute silence in the UK was observed on November 11, 1919, celebrating the day the war ended one year prior.

A field of remembrance will be set up to the right of the war memorial, where people are allowed to leave tributes to the fallen. However, organisers ask that this is not done during the service.
