RESIDENTS are being urged to donate to Weston Carnival after over £22,776 was spent on this year's event.

This figure is based on the larger outgoings, illustrating how much money it costs to run this "incredible spectacle."

Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from the Weston Carnival team said: "This years bucket and coin cart collection total is £11,815 (last year by comparison was £16,853). Carnival Fans to all who have given, our sincerest thanks for every penny.

"While Weston Carnival is a free to attend event, there are significant costs to bring this incredible spectacle to the streets of Weston each year.

"Some of our larger outgoings this year: Appearance Money £6,330. Traffic Management and barriers £5,126. Medical cover £3,455. Music Licence £1,397. Security & carparking £1,930. Toilet Hire £936. Judges & Marshals food £900. Insurance £2,702 (total there of 22,776).

"Our small volunteer team are already working hard towards next year's event and exploring various ways to generate revenue to protect the future of carnival in Weston."

A spokesperson from Sophie's SUPER Litter Picking group added: "It's costing more to put on the event than the donations they're receiving.

"If we aren't careful, we'll lose our SUPER Carnival. Please give generously."
