IT can be really difficult to find a good breakfast place that you want to go back to again and again.

Admittedly, I haven’t tried that many breakfast places in Weston, so when hunger struck on a Wednesday lunchtime, I took to Tripadvisor for inspiration on where to go.

The good reviews about Scotty’s Brunch Bar instantly caught my eye.

One previous customer even said that they would give the restaurant, which has made it on the Travellers’ Choice Awards list for 2023, six stars if they could for its “friendly, attentive staff and amazing food”.

After reading all that, I just had to see what the fuss was all about.

The décor

Located on Walliscote Road, Scotty’s Brunch Bar looks pretty unassuming from the outside. Whilst there are a couple of tables outside so that customers can sit, eat and people-watch, the black store with a beige-yellow sign doesn’t really give you a taste of what’s inside.

However, when walking into the restaurant, you can see why it's a popular venue for gatherings. The communal tables with high stalls make it the perfect venue to catch up with friends and family.

Signs adorn the walls, with sayings like ‘Drunk In Love’ and ‘Happy Birthday.’

There is foliage by the door as well, which I assume could be used as a photo background – perfect for the Instagrammers amongst us.

The staff, who were taking a break when I walked in (fair enough), were kind and courteous. There were only two other people eating when I arrived, and the smell of their breakfasts was enough to get my stomach rumbling.

The food

With one Tripadvisor commenter saying that Scotty’s Brunch Bar serve a “superb breakfast”, I just had to try a breakfast staple – eggs benedict.

There were plenty of breakfast options, as well as sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and much more. Many of the dishes on offer are completely flexible and tailored to your personal taste, too, since you can choose the ingredients of many of the lunch-type dishes.

What I was most surprised about was the prices – it was all so cheap! My coffee cost under £2 and, if memory serves me right, my breakfast was only £5.95.

And the portions were very generous for that price, too. My latte arrived in a tall coffee glass, and, whilst it could have been slightly stronger for my liking, was still delicious.

Meanwhile, my food was served neatly on a narrow black plate, giving a modern feel. The eggs were runny and very tasty, whilst the muffin and bacon were cooked to perfection.

I was very impressed by my brunch. If I were to go back, I would try something slightly different from the breakfast menu, perhaps a full English or even one of the breakfast wraps.
