THE owners of a Highbridge shop have been given permission to sell booze all day, despite concern among residents. The Total Convenience Store, which is part of a petrol station in Burnham Road, can now sell alcohol 24 hours a day all week long. The application which was considered by Sedgemoor District Council's licensing panel, prompted 32 letters of complaint from residents concerned about issues like crime and disorder and a letter of objection from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.Town councillor Pat Burge said: "There is no necessity to have a licence like that at a garage. I have sympathy with the local residents and I'm very surprised they got the extension to the licence. The panel should have thought about the neighbours in that area. It will mean extra noise and extra rubbish from them."Previously the shop was allowed to sell alcohol Monday to Saturday from 8am-11pm and on Sundays from 10am-10.30pm. The extension to the shop's licence will also allow for the layout of the shop to be altered. But the licensing panel has agreed for signs to be put up at the shop asking people to leave quietly and for CCTV cameras to be realigned to cover 'blind spots'.
