Worle Community School has recognised a number of selfless students as real-life Christmas Heroes.

The Somerset-based academy awarded certificates and prizes to pupils for demonstrating outstanding character and acts of kindness.

This includes caring for ill or disabled family members, as well as supporting the homeless and charities within their community.

The Christmas Heroes campaign, part of The Priory Learning Trust (PLT), recognised a number of students during a celebratory breakfast.

The event, hosted by principal Mark Tidman and director of secondary education, Gregg Morrison, saw them rewarded with prizes including a free rides pass sponsored by the Grand Pier.

Principal Mark Tidman said: "Every single day our students amaze us with their huge kindness and selfless acts across the school and community.

"Well done to every single one of our Christmas heroes."

Worle Community School Academy pride themselves on forming character and nurturing talents and interests, with a range of clubs from music and drama to sports.

They also have a thriving careers programme and were the first to open a Jill Dando News Centre in 2017, where young journalists promote good news, kindness, humility, and positivity.

This initiative is part of the school's continual PROUD scheme which aims to inspire students to be prepared, respectful, optimistic, understanding and determined.
