SOMERSET will be hit by heavy rainfall on Wednesday, December 27, the Met Office has said.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued covering Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, North Somerset, parts of Wiltshire and much of south and west Wales.

The warning will be in place between midnight and 3pm.

A separate warning for wind will be in place across the south coast of England between 3am and 6pm.

A Met Office spokesperson said the expected rain “brings the potential for disruption to travel and a risk of flooding” across Somerset.

The weather agency says:

  • Longer journey times on buses and trains are expected
  • Longer journey times on the roads due to spray and flooding are expected
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services is likely.

If you need to travel in heavy rain or strong winds, the Met Office recommends reducing your speed, avoiding driving through floodwater and keeping a safe distance to vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.
