Cllr Cronnelly said: "Thank you to Weston-super-Mare Association of Malayalees for inviting the mayoress and I to your Christmas and New Year celebrations.

"The food was absolutely amazing and we loved the programme of events - great dancing and great singing.

"A really big appreciation from me for the £1,000 you've also raised for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity."

The association's website reads: "Weston-super-Mare Association of Malayalees. The `WAM` is an organisation of Keralites who migrated and settled in Weston-super-Mare, United Kingdom.

"Malayalees are named so as their mother tongue is Malayalam and are from the southwestern naturally beautiful and fully literated state of  Kerala, India."
