“LET'S get a kebab.”

Those words are like music to my ears, especially at the end of a night out.

This is why I just had to try Weston’s new German Doner Kebab (GDK) store, which had opened its doors in May 2023.

Although I was a bit late to the scene, the store still impressed – let me tell you all about it.

Situated on the High Street, the store itself is quite eye-catching.

A dark exterior coupled with white and orange signage really captures the attention of passer-by's and gives the impression of quite a modern and sophisticated place.

The inside of the restaurant is clean, with an array of booths, tables and high stalls to choose from. There are screens near the entrance so that people can order, but everyone is welcome to pop up to the till and order in person.

From what I could see, the staff were friendly and polite and gave service with a smile.

Since I didn’t quite know what I wanted, I opted to order via the screens, which were easy to navigate. It helped that all of the food options were accompanied by a picture, too, so you could get a gauge on portion sizes.

Helpfully, there were table number signs which you could pick up so that the staff could bring your food to you directly, which avoids queues forming whilst people wait patiently (or some not so patiently) for their food.

Since I had a craving, I went for the mixed meat quesadilla meal, complete with cheesy fries and a can of Pepsi Max Cherry.

The chicken spring rolls with garlic sauce also caught my eye, so I gave them a go as well.

Considering the size of the portions, I didn’t think the prices were too bad. The quesadilla meal came in at £8.48, whilst the portion of two spring rolls were priced at £2.99.

The only slight niggle was that the fries portion could have been slightly bigger, but I was full up either way, so no harm done.

In terms of taste, it was all delicious. The toasted quesadillas were filled with mixed meat, cheese, onions, jalapeños and signature sauces. I thought it all went together perfectly. It was hot, cheesy, meaty, and full of flavour: what more could you ask for?

The chips left a little more to be desired. They were ok, but could have done with a sprinkle more of salt. Nevertheless, they were smothered in cheese, which sort of made up for it.

The crispy spring rolls were packed full of meat and jalapeños. Whilst they were tasty, the only downside to them is that they were slightly greasy.

Other tempting treats on the menu included a doner box, a doner burger, and even a doner panini.

All in all, though, it made for a very tasty lunch. Next time, I think I’ll have to try something different, maybe one of those doner boxes. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
