AFTER around 10 years of campaigning, a zebra crossing is due to be installed near the mini-roundabout on Weston's Ashcombe Road.

The crossing will be installed next week.

The leader of North Somerset Council, Cllr Mike Bell, believes that this could help make the area "more pedestrian friendly", especially for children and their families going to and from Ashcombe Primary School.

The crossing is being delivered as part of the Liveable Neighbourhood scheme, which aims to make neighbourhoods quieter, safer and greener places to be.

Posting on Facebook, Cllr Bell said: "Something like 10 years after we first campaigned for it, a zebra crossing in Ashcombe Road near the mini-roundabout is finally going in.

"This will help make the area more pedestrian friendly and particularly help families getting to and from Ashcombe Primary School.

"Councillor Robert Payne and I have been pushing for this and I'm pleased installation is expected to take place next week."
