LOCALS have been reminiscing on the late Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Weston in celebration of the 1977 Silver Jubilee.

Residents flocked to the Beach Lawns to catch a glimpse of the then Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, both of whom have since passed away.

Commenting underneath a photo of the Beach Lawns celebration posted in the We Grew Up In Weston-super-Mare Facebook group, one person said that they remember the crowds most of all: "I was waiting along Locking Road with my parents, Nan and Auntie. There were crowds of us all lining Locking Road."

Another said that they remember admiring the late Queen: "Gosh remember seeing her, she was so lovely."

Echoing this, a resident added: "I was there, may our Queen RIP."

Some also remember seeing Prince Philip interact with the crowds during the visit: "Remember this so well, Prince Philip said hello to my son who was two at the time."
