FREE pop-up illuminated artworks will transform Weston as part of the third edition of GLOW Light Festival.

The event, which will have the theme 'play in nature', will take place during half term from Tuesday, February 13 to Saturday, February 17.

GLOW Around Town will feature a series of interactive light installations that will be dotted throughout Weston town. This will operate alongside the main, ticketed festival site at Grove Park.

Here's some of the installations to watch out for

The Grand Pier

Residents will be able to share the love at The Grand Pier. Light Hearted, a giant LED heart, will light up when it is connected by people holding hands across the artwork.

Weston locals will also be encouraged to take a selfie with 'I Heart WSM'.

Digital Funfair

Residents can play Hexagons, a graphic-style game, at the Digital Funfair. This immersive game will be played out on an illuminated wall.

Princess Royal Square

Residents can express themselves on a eight metre wide LED curtain at the Princess Royal Square.

The pathways will be transformed by Linear, a new light installation based on the double helix structure found in DNA by Bristol light artist Aether Project.

Italian Gardens

Continuum will transform the Italian Gardens. The sensory installation is from Illumaphonium and will feature 25 illuminated monoliths.

The water fountain jets will transform into abstract images in ‘Every Drop’, a light projection artwork sponsored by Bristol Water.

Most of the town centre artworks will be lit up for five evenings during the festival from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

Continuum will be at the Italian Gardens from Wednesday, February 14 to Saturday, February 17.

On Friday, February 16, party-goers can let their hair down at Afterglow. This will take place from 9pm to 3am at the Loft and Electric Banana nightclubs, complete with Dj's, live music from Bristol’s Cheritang, local bands, a sensory playroom and enchanted forest themed artwork.

Early bird tickets cost £6 and can be purchased on the Super Culture website.

GLOW director Paula Birtwistle said: “At GLOW in Grove Park there’s a spectacular line-up of light installations, many created by artists and communities from Weston. The event provides the perfect half term excuse to emerge from the winter darkness and into the light!

“Last year’s event was a sell-out success that attracted 20,000 visitors from Weston, the local area and across the region - this year, even with an extra night added to the festival schedule, tickets are selling fast again.”
