A WESTON fish and chip shop has had to adjust its Pay It Forward system due to people "abusing the scheme."
The Strange Catch on West Street introduced the initiative in January to help those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
The scheme, which was run entirely on trust and the generosity of others, involved people pinning prepaid meals onto a noticeboard.
Families or those that were unable to pay for themselves could then come along and redeem the prepaid meals at the till.
However, a poster created by the store explains that the company has had to make changes to the way its meals are distributed.
Now, all prepaid meals will be donated to Weston-super-Mare Foodbank and Somewhere To Go.
The poster reads: "Due to a few people abusing the scheme we have had to make changes to the way that meals are distributed.
"Sorry that we have had to do this but the idea was to always try and help the many and not the few."
