WRINGTON councillor Thomas Daw has been selected as the Green Party candidate for Weston.

Cllr Daw, who attended Churchill School, has said that he hopes to embody the values of Weston, which he describes as "talented, hard-working, imaginative and kind."

Cllr Daw said: "As an advocate for community empowerment and progress, I am proud to announce my candidacy for Member of Parliament (MP) for my hometown, where I was born and raised, Weston-super-Mare.

"Weston is a town of unique character opportunities. We have the potential to be a beacon to the rest of the country, demonstrating how collective action can overcome even the most daunting challenges.

"Weston has shown it is talented, hard-working, imaginative, and kind – values that I hope I will embody as your MP.

"As a North Somerset District Councillor, I’m dedicated my time to championing policies that will build a fairer, greener future for this country.

"I believe we can win Weston.

"We have the best opportunity to make a statement on how the country is run.

"I won’t be swayed, coerced or intimidated into supporting a prime minister, current or future, who puts their own self-interests first. I would be free to listen to my constituents and vote with my conscience."

Posting on social media earlier this month, Cllr Daw added: "I'm proud to be announced tonight as the Green Party candidates for Weston-super-Mare.

"It's time for some real change in Weston with an MP that will be present and represent."

The North Somerset Green Party website explains the party's values further: "We're working progressively with other parties on local issues; to improve the lives of all people in North Somerset, and to improve our local environment.

"As part of the Green Party of England & Wales, we share a deep concern for social and environmental justice, expressed through our national policies, we believe fair is worth fighting for.

"We rely on people power rather than corporate finance in all that we do.  Get involved with us today so that we can achieve so much more for North Somerset.

"We cover the whole of the North Somerset Unitary Authority which includes the complete North Somerset and Weston Parliamentary Constituencies and part of the new Wells and Mendip Hills Constituency."
