A Weston comic book shop owner has launched a new comic which takes inspiration from the past.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional tabloid format of the original Eagle comic, Alan Holloway's Falcon revives the aesthetic of the decades-old print style, while delivering new content.

Falcon was born from a conversation between Mr Holloway and a friend.

Mr Holloway said: "Falcon came about when my comics partner in crime Ed Doyle suggested it would be cool to have an Eagle type comic full of fun comic strips.

"In the end we gathered over twenty writers and artists from all over Britain and ended up with a 28 page comic."

Despite its traditional look, Falcon has been crafted for a versatile audience.

Mr Holloway said it is "not at all" a comic solely for children.

He said: "It's pretty much all ages, as there's no sex, profanity or grisly violence, but not for small children as there's a few dark strips as well as a fantastic text story, 'Whalermen' that mixes Lovecraftian horror with Moby Dick."

He adds that strands of horror, science fiction, fantasy and humour interweave with hard-hitting moments one might associate with the original '2000AD' comic.

Launched via Kickstarter, Falcon can be found online and at selected comic conventions.

Additionally, Mr Holloway plans to sell them at his shop, Imaginarium, and it will be priced at £6.

Mr Holloway added: "'We've struggled along for seven years now, so it would be nice a to see a few new faces willing to revive their British comics love, or maybe introduce some younger readers to something you simply can't get in the newsagents any more."
