Discussions have began about fundraising planning for defibrillators at Weston-super-Mare AFC.

The Donate For Defib WsM Project visited club board member Alex Crowther for talks on Saturday, April 6, and were informed that the club already has two defibrillators on the premises.

One is situated at the 3G Pitch, the other is mobile and located pitch-side during games.

Josh Bell, co-leading partner of the charity, and Mr Crowther, have a history of community outreach work together.

Having known each other and been friends for years, both previously collaborated on the Eagles Non-Profit Trust, an organisation involved in various community initiatives, including Feed The Homeless W-S-M.

Mr Crowther and his team are now keen to add more defibrillators in and around Optima Stadium.

The additional units, which they hope to acquire soon, will be accessible to the public, even outside of match days, Mr Crowther has said.

He said they will all be registered on The Circuit, ensuring the availability of life-saving equipment around the clock.

The club also plans to organise a corporate fundraiser to finance the addition of the new defibrillators.

One event already scheduled to support the project is the 'Only Fools & Horses Fundraiser'.

The club will contribute a signed official programme by the players and a Family of Four Match Day Pass to be auctioned at the event.

Mr Crowther and his team were able to introduce the project team to Dakota Security Services staff members during their visit, which is expected to support the fundraising efforts in future.

The charity has extended its gratitude to Mr Crowther and the club for their time, and has committed to partnering with them to contribute to the community.
