CARRIAGEWAY resurfacing works have begun on Weston's A370 Beach Road.

The works, which are expected to take place over 13 days, excluding weekends, means that the road will be closed at various different times.

A North Somerset Travel and Roads spokesperson said: "Phases 1-3 will be under a daytime closure between the hours of 08:00-17:00:

"Phase One: 15/04/2024 – 19/04/2024: From its junction with Quantock Road to its junction with Clevedon Road.

"Phase Two: 15/04/2024 – 19/04/2024: From its junction with Clevedon Road up to the Grand Atlantic Hotel. Ellenborough Park North will also be partly closed in an easterly direction for 35m.

"Phase Three: 22/04/2024 – 26/04/2024: From its junction with Carlton Street and Marine Parade. Carlton Street will also be partly closed in an easterly direction for 30m.

"The following phase will be completed under a night closure between the hours of 20:00-06:00 for loop cutting:

"Phase Four: 29/04/2024 – 01/05/2024.

"29/04/2024: A370 Beach Road from its junction with Clifton Road to the property boundary of Number 36.

"30/04/2024: A370 Beach Road from its junction with Ellenborough Park South up to the Grand Atlantic Hotel.

"01/05/2024: A370 Beach Road from its junction with Carlton Street and Marine Parade."

Speaking yesterday (Monday, April 15), the leader of North Somerset Council, Cllr Mike Bell, added: "There have been a number of questions about the road resurfacing work on Beach Road - and consequent disruption and diversion.

"This section of Beach Road is being resurfaced because it has been identified as a priority in the council's road asset management plan.

"This plan identifies roads for resurfacing over a 12-36 month period. This doesn't just look at the current condition but also aims to intervene at the most cost effective moment in the life of a road to get the best bang for taxpayers buck.

"So whilst it might look like the road is in better condition than some others, the assessment and analysis shows that Beach Road would require bigger and more expensive work if left for future years.

"As many residents will know, work is also being undertaken on Devonshire Road at the moment. This is being done by Wales and West Utilities and was due to be finished by today (Monday 15th) so that it did not overlap with the Beach Road work.

"Unfortunately, Wales and West have had problems that has delayed their work and they are hoping to complete tomorrow. In the meantime council staff are reviewing signage and on-site marshals to try to manage traffic as best is possible."
