CHILDREN and their families across North Somerset will today be finding out which primary school they will be attending from this September.

In total, North Somerset Council received 2,023 primary school applications this year.

99.36 per cent of these children were offered one of their top three schools. Over 97 per cent of applicants have received their first choice.

Figures show that:

  • 97.38 per cent (1,970) have had their first preference met;
  • 1.98 per cent (40) have had their second preference met;
  • 0 had their third preference met.

Only 13 children were not offered any of their preferences, which could be down to parents and carers not submitting their three preferences.

All who applied for their local school were offered a place.

If you applied online, you will receive an email with the outcome by the end of today. Anyone who applied using hardcopy forms will receive their offer by either email or post in the coming days.

Parents and carers can appeal the decision by visiting the North Somerset Council website.

Councillor Catherine Gibbons, North Somerset Council’s Deputy leader and executive member for Children’s Services, Families and Lifelong Learning, said: "Starting school is an exciting milestone, and I wish all our young learners the best of luck.
