WESTON'S biker community joined together over the weekend to help fulfil a man's final wish.
Chris Hunt, 72, is currently receiving palliative care and treatment for cancer at Weston Hospicecare on Thornbury Road.
Chris, who has been a dedicated biker all his life, brought himself a new Triumph motorbike and helmet in 2023, but only had the chance to ride it once due to his ill health.
He has also been the proud owner of a Harley-Davidson and latterly a BMW.
His last wish was to take part in a motorbike procession, which was made possible thanks to the local biker community and the hospice, on Sunday, April 14.
Speaking about the event, the mayor of Weston, Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly, said: "What an incredible and emotional ride.
"Hundreds of bikers turned up today to deliver Chris' final wish - to be part of a procession in Weston - and wow did the biker community show up. Not just from Weston, but from far and wide.
"Hundreds of bikers processed to Weston Hospicecare where Chris joined as a pillion on a trike. They then processed to the seafront and back to Weston Hospicecare.
"Thank you to everyone who turned a wish into reality today - the smile on Chris' face was incredible. Thank you to the many many members of the public who waved, clapped and cheered.
"It was a privilege to be part of today.
"Special mention to Dale Walters who turned this into reality and to the staff at Weston Hospicecare who make magic moments like this all the time.
"Also thank you to Frank Bamford for taking care of me and letting me ride pillion on his bike.
"The biker community of Weston and beyond - you are amazing - today you demonstrated why Weston-super-Mare is so special."
Speaking prior to the event, John Bailey, director of Patient Services at Weston Hospicecare, said: “We are so happy to be able to make this happen for Chris and his wife Di.
"We always try to make these Magic Moments a reality as they mean so much to our patients and their families who cherish the memories of experiences like this.
“This could not have happened without the support of the biker community in Weston and we are very thankful for their quick action to make this happen.
“If anyone has been touched by Chris’s story please consider making a donation to us however small - 80% of our income relies on public support so every little really does make a difference.”
