JUVENILE offenders were spotted committing a "disorder" against school staff and members of the public in the Priory School area of Weston yesterday (Tuesday, April 23).

Officers patrolled the area to create a "deterrent" and have said that they "are extremely concerned about the repeated disorder and use of cannabis in the area."

Speaking yesterday, a North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: "Today many of you will have seen neighbourhood officers from Worle and Bournville working together on the Queensway to create a high visibility active crime and disorder deterrent in the area of Sainsbury's and Priory School.

"The reason for this activity follows an incident yesterday where juvenile offenders were committing disorder against school staff and general members of the public.

"Additionally, in the underpass by Sainsbury's last week, officers attended the location from the Worle beat team to conduct stop and searches on a group of juveniles who were smoking cannabis.

"This was at around 17:00 hours on Wednesday. It was busy in the area with children and the general public.

"We detained the juveniles and as a result one was arrested, we seized an E-Scooter and cannabis. The investigation is ongoing.

"Three other children aged 12 to 15 were also found in possession of cannabis. Some of these were still in school uniform. Investigation is ongoing.

"Unfortunately, as the two Police officers were dealing with the arrested male, another juvenile attempted to rob the PCSO's who were carrying the seized items, including the e-scooter.

"Both PCSO's received bruising, but they were able to retain the items and officers arrived at the scene. The juvenile responsible was arrested next day and an officer was assaulted. The juvenile was bailed whilst we seek a charging decision from the CPS.

"We are working very closely with the school and parents who are positively engaging with us. We are extremely concerned about the repeated disorder and use of cannabis in the area, in addition to being alarmed by how young some of the users are.

"Over the last month we have appealed to you to help us with overcoming the problems in the area, you are feeding us with intelligence that is allowing us to target offenders, target patrols and try to deter and prevent crime.

"We really wanted to thank you for this and all the positive messages and comments you have made."
