WESTON Hospicecare has announced its biggest annual fundraiser, the Mendip Challenge, will return on Sunday, June 2.

Participants with very personal motivations for completing the challenge will strive to beat last year’s impressive £76,682 fundraising total.

Thousands of people have completed the annual event by taking on the 30-mile, 20-mile, 10-mile and five-mile routes across the West Mendip Way, receiving a medal at the end of the challenge.

Local community member Candace Riley, who is taking part in the challenge, raises funds for the charity to provide end-of-life care for her mum Machell Riley and is pulling a team together to complete all levels of the event.

Candace said: “It warms my heart each year to see so many community members come together to recognise the amazing service our local hospice provides for our loved ones.

“Until you have a loved one in the hospice you understand what special people it takes to manage, support and care for our loved ones. “

Weston Hospicecare’s events and challenges manager Nicola Slark said: “We are encouraging as many as possible to take part in this annual event or support their friends and family through sponsorship, to ensure others can receive the continued level of care that Weston Hospicecare provides.

“We cannot wait to see everyone as they take on the challenge across the beautiful local countryside in June.”
