A former student at a Weston school has been selected to represent Great Britain students at the World University Championships.
Stephanie Brooks, who attended Priory Community School, will compete in the 400m hurdles at the championship, which is set to take place later this month in Bochum, Germany.
According to Cardiff Metropolitan University, where she studies sports conditioning, rehabilitation, and massage, she made a huge impact during her debut season last year.
She finished sixth at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) outdoor championships, and also played a key role in her university's gold-winning 4x200m relay squad at the BUCS indoor championships earlier this year.
Most recently, she became the third female athlete to run the 300m in under 40 seconds at the National Indoor Athletics Centre.
This achievement has marked her as one of the UK's most exciting young hurdlers.
She is continuing her preparations for the British Championships in August, having gained valuable experience competing at the Welsh Championships last weekend.
Her selection for the World University Championships marks a significant milestone in her career.
To fund the costs of the trip, Stephanie has launched a GoFundMe page.
Rhiannon Hawker, head of athletics at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said: "This is a hugely deserved selection and a reflection of the hard work and professionalism she brings to training every single day.
"To achieve what she has in such a short space of time is fantastic, and we are proud to see her wear the GB vest on the international stage.
"Everyone at Cardiff Met Sport wishes her the very best as she continues her journey towards world-class competition."
