THE organisers of Weston-super-Mare Carnival have unveiled a new plan for the clean-up operation to tackle the litter issues that occurred following last year’s event.
The carnival has formed a new partnership with North Somerset Environment Waste Management (NSec) to deliver a “cleaner, greener event” this year.
A spokesperson for Weston Carnival said: “After last year’s litter problems following Weston-super-Mare Carnival, organisers knew it was time to take a major step forward - for the town, the volunteers who give up their time to help, and the thousands of spectators who come to enjoy the magic of Carnival night.

“This year, the Carnival Committee has teamed up with NSec who have created a comprehensive new rubbish and recycling plan.
“NSec will lead the entire clean-up operation, working alongside Carnival volunteers to keep Weston’s streets clean and safe throughout the evening.”
The new plan includes five recycling stations positioned around the carnival route and dedicated bins and litter pickers operating throughout the night.
There will also be a NSec recycling truck as the final vehicle in the parade, with a team litter-picking as they go, as well as the requirement food vendors provide their own bins and take away all rubbish after the event.
Carnival spokesperson Neil O'Donoghue said: “After seeing the amount of litter left behind last year, we knew we had to act.
“With NSec’s support, we’re confident this year’s plan will make a huge difference — but we also need everyone’s help. Please recycle, bin it, or take it home.”
The Committee is reminding everyone that the streets to do their part in keeping the town tidy.
“When the lights go out and the music stops, the clean-up bill is ours and no one else’s,” Mr O’Donoghue added.
“Let’s show some Carnival pride and keep Weston looking as amazing as the parade itself.”
