Gas network improvement works in Cheddar have finished ahead of schedule.

Work in the Draycott Road area was carried out by Wales & West Utilities, which began the project on Tuesday, September 1, to upgrade part of the gas network and ensure a continued safe and reliable supply to homes and businesses.

The company worked closely with Somerset Council and the local community to plan the scheme.

Simon Lee, who managed the project for Wales & West Utilities, said: “This project was extremely complex due to the nature of the surrounding road network, and so we’re delighted to finish this project a week ahead of schedule.

“We would like to thank the local community for their understanding whilst we worked to upgrade the gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.”

Mr Lee emphasised the essential nature of the work, which supports daily life in the area.

He said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales & West Utilities delivers energy to more than 7.5m people across Wales and the South West of England through a network of over 35,000 kilometres of pipes.

Residents who smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide are urged to immediately call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.
