We know that talking about death is not everyone's cup of tea. Well, let's face it, nobody wakes up on a Saturday morning thinking, "What a lovely day to write my Will!"

But one Weston-super-Mare family business is changing the way people think about Wills, inheritance and planning for the future, proving that serious conversations don't have to feel intimidating.

Making a Will, arranging Lasting Powers of Attorney and deciding what should happen to everything you have worked hard for are some of the most important things you can do for the people you love.

That is where Toucan Law comes in.

Based in the heart of Weston-super-Mare, the family-run business offers a refreshingly approachable alternative to traditional estate planning. Intimidating legal language is replaced with friendly conversations, clear advice and practical support tailored to each client's circumstances.

Experience you can trust and people you can talk to

Toucan Law was founded by Kylie Cox, an experienced private client specialist with nearly 30 years' experience in Wills, Trusts, Probate and Estate Planning.

A full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the international professional body for specialists in inheritance and succession planning, Kylie also holds an MBA and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. But despite her extensive qualifications, she believes good advice should always be delivered in plain English.

For Kylie, estate planning has never been just about legal documents. When she lost her mother to cancer at just 48, Kylie experienced first-hand the emotional and practical challenges families face following a death. Suddenly, she was navigating bereavement, family responsibilities and the complexities of an estate without a Will. That experience helped shape the business she would later build.

she said: "I know what it's like when life changes in an instant. The last thing families need at an already difficult time is confusion, unnecessary worry or complicated paperwork."

This personal understanding continues to shape the way Toucan Law supports its clients.

Today, Kylie works alongside Andrew Cox and Ellie Allen, bringing together professional experience and the personal touch of a family-run business. Whether clients are making their first Will, protecting their family home or dealing with the loss of someone they love, they'll find real people who take the time to listen, explain and help.

It is not only about what you leave behind

Many people assume Wills are something to consider later in life, that Trusts are only for wealthy families or that Lasting Powers of Attorney can wait until retirement.

In reality, estate planning can be valuable at many different stages of life.

Whether someone is buying their first home, raising children, entering a second marriage, supporting ageing parents or simply trying to get their affairs in order, having the right plans in place can make an enormous difference.

What would happen if you couldn't make decisions for yourself tomorrow? Would your partner automatically have the authority to manage your finances? And could everything you've worked hard for really pass to the people you intended? These are questions many families never think to ask until something happens.

Toucan Law supports individuals and families with:

  • Wills, helping to ensure their wishes are clearly recorded and loved ones are provided for.
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney, allowing people to choose someone they trust to make important decisions if they become unable to do so.
  • Trusts and Estate Planning, exploring suitable ways to protect assets and provide for future generations.
  • Probate and Estate Administration, offering practical and compassionate support following a death.

Every family is different, which is why the team does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

A brighter way to plan ahead

Toucan Law's growing collection of five-star Google reviews reflects an approach built on trust, kindness and taking the time to get things right. And while the colourful branding and friendly mascot, Toco, might make people smile, there's serious professional experience behind that warm welcome.

The team believes professional knowledge and a warm welcome should always go hand in hand.

Appointments are available at the Weston-super-Mare office, online, by telephone or through home visits, allowing clients to choose the option that makes them feel most comfortable.

Kylie added: "We can't always control what life throws at us, but we can make things easier for the people we love. That's what good estate planning is really about."

Whether you've been meaning to make your Will for years, are wondering how best to protect your home for your children, or simply want to make sure your family won't be left with unnecessary complications, Toucan Law is here to help.
