YOUNGSTERS in Congresbury have cause for celebration thanks to a £35,000 fund-raising drive by their parents.

The committee for the village's playgroup, based off Station Road, has raised the massive amount over the past few years for a new classroom.

The members, who are past and present parents of youngsters who have attended the pre-school facility, have now applied for planning permission for the structure, which they hope will be granted in February.

At the moment the committee is busy fund-raising for furnishings and to pay for the new prefabricated building, a prefabricated one, to be installed.

Mum-of-three Sally Mackay, who has helped with the fund-raising said: "Although the current classroom is safe it does leak and some of the wall is coming away.

"We are hoping planning permission will be granted next month and we can get the new building installed in the summer.

"The money has been raised through a series of fun days and other activities.

"Now we are busy trying to raise another £2,000 for the installation and then more cash to furnish the facility."

The current classroom, situated at the St Andrew's Junior School site, has been in use for about 15 years.
