Compromises and close family are the key to a long and happy marriage, according to one Worle couple who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week.

Friends and relatives of Larry and Mary McGurk, of Tavistock Road, threw a surprise party to mark the occasion at the Oak and Glass restaurant in Uphill Road North on Saturday.

Mary, aged 84, said: “The party was fantastic. It was all organised by our daughter-in-law Sharon, and we are so grateful.

“Happy relationships are all about give and take, and we rarely argue. We also have a lovely family, with five children and 12 grandchildren. We’re very close.”
