From enormous burgers to extravagant cheese boards, Somerset has dozens of pubs offering tasty meals for punters wanting to explore its towns and villages – but here are nine of the best places to get a spot of pub grub in Somerset…

The Swan, Wedmore

This lovely village pub makes its own bread and cakes daily, has fresh meat provided by local butchers, gets fresh fish delivered six days a week and its chefs use these fine ingredients to cook up a storm in its kitchen.

Whether you want a traditional Sunday roast dinner, or somewhere to go for a special occasion, The Swan suits many occasions – and it also runs an all-day bar snack menu alongside what is on offer in its main restaurant.

Queens Arms, in Bleadon

Steak and a Sunday roast are the Queens Arms specialities. This 16th-century pub sources its ingredients locally and runs regular deals – including two steaks for £18 every Friday from 6pm.

On the first Monday of every month the pub also runs a curry and quiz night – just make sure you can handle the heat…

The Railway Inn, Sandford

This pub had new life breathed into it by Thatchers in 2015 and has since gained a reputation for good food and, of course, great cider. The chefs at The Railway have carefully created the menu to pair perfectly with Thatchers’ different drinks.

The pub features an open fire and traditional oak-framed dining room, which make for the perfect setting for a spot of lunch after enjoying a walk on the Strawberry Line or a great pit-stop to quench your thirst on a pint of local ale or cider.

The Pony & Trap, Chew Magna

The Pony & Trap has had a Michelin Star since 2011 and is the perfect pub to visit if you want to treat yourself or a loved one.

The pub prides itself on a ‘field to fork’ ethos – and sources its food as locally as possible from suppliers around the Chew Valley and the South West.

The Pig, Bath

The Pig might be a bit of a drive from Weston-super-Mare, but it is worth the journey.

The country house’s menu changes depending on what its foragers find or the kitchen gardener deems to be ready to eat.

The White Hart, Cheddar

Cheddar might only be a small village, but it definitely deserves to feature on our list of best places to get pub grub – maybe we should move there…

The White Hart is nestled at the bottom of Cheddar Gorge and its menu boasts hearty home-cooked food at reasonable prices. Whether you want to tuck into a mighty pie, tasty lasagne or try a lighter bite, The White Hard has a lot to offer.

The Ship & Castle, Congresbury

If you can not decide what you would like to eat, The Ship & Castle could provide the perfect solution with its tapas selection.

The restaurant offers more than 50 mouth-watering dishes, from traditional Spanish and Greek tapas to Chinese, Moroccan and Mexican dishes – or you could try something off its full A La Carte menu.

The Plough Inn, Wrington

The Plough Inn has a relaxed country feel and a great choice of food and drink. There are real log fires to keep you warm in the winter, or a large beer garden to enjoy in the summer months.

The pub has a great reputation for its antipasti, with delicious breads, cheeses, meats and dips on offer alongside its main menu boasting delicious dishes such as duck, pork belly and pan-fried trout.

The New Inn, Blagdon

Blagdon is famous for its stunning lake and The New Inn provides a stunning view of this beautiful area from within the comfort of its walls.

The country pub has an extensive menu which is jam-packed with home-cooked food – including fresh trout caught from the local lake.
